Cozmo was certified in 1997 at the same shop that his parents certified 20 years prior in Northern California. Fell in love with the cold waters of the Monterey area so much so he dove the ice cold kelp beds 200 times a year. Almost from the beginning Cozmo fell down the rabbit hole of Tech diving the then crazy dark side of scuba “I had to, they have cookies" In 2000 Cozmo opened California Underwater Explorers to share his love for tech diving and in 2001 got hypnotized by the prospect of exploring underwater caves and took off to Florida to get trained. In 2004 life got in the way and vacationed New Jersey for about 15 years doing a few trips here and there to the caves in Florida. Cozmo then landed in Florida for good and been cave diving since.
What I like most about diving/what type of diving you like?
I love the zen I get while cave diving and exploring different cave systems. I also try and use my O2ptima rebreather as much as posable as it gives me all kinds of time underwater and interact with the wild life that does not happen with open circuit.
What do you do outside of diving - what do you do for a living
I have many things I like to do outside of diving. I have been guilty of Kayaking, Sailing, Crew chief of a Big Block Modified race team, camping, a little hunting and riding my motorcycle. I have supported my family and hobbies by working in industrial maintenance for 25+ years in the Steal, Pharma, Plastic, Waste Water, and Investment casting.
What is your next dive class and/or diving goal
I have plans to continue my instructor ratings like cavern, rebreather and exploration Trimix. I also would love to dive the Britannic, cave systems in Europe and Mexico
